Placer Community Foundation Youth Development Program Grants
The Youth Development Program is jointly funded through the James Irvine Foundation and a giving circle of donors at the Placer Community Foundation. Grants ranging up to $5,000 will support positive youth development programs and services provided by a nonprofit organization. (Other non-incorporated groups may apply as long as they are partnered with a qualified organization for fiscal management of the grant.) Qualified programs will address the needs of underserved youth (ages 14-21) residing along the western slope of Placer County. The deadline to apply for a Youth Development Program grant is August 24, 2010. The Placer Community Foundation will be holding two separate meetings on August 3rd to answer questions about the application process.

Health Plan of San Joaquin Grants for Health-related Projects in San Joaquin County and Galt Placer
Through its Community Wellness Funding Program, Health Plan of San Joaquin will make $150,000 in grants for projects to 1) improve access to health care for children, families, seniors, and persons with disabilities; 2) reduce ethnic and cultural disparities in health; and 3) improve childhood nutrition and fitness. Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant Program
With generous support from the Bank of America Foundation, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is pleased to offer a grant program that recognizes affordable housing developers who are committed to building sustainable communities. The Affordable Green Neighborhoods Grant Program will award grants and provide educational resources to affordable housing developers and related public agencies who choose to pursue LEED 2009 for Neighborhood Development certification. Preference will be given to qualifying projects that meet additional goals, including the redevelopment of infill and previously developed sites, effort to strengthen the surrounding neighborhoods, commitment to engage stakeholders in the development process, and the provision of green housing for a range of income levels.

CHW Community Grants Program
This year's grant program has been structured to strengthen our region's healthcare safety-net. Grant proposals for Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and YoloCounties must address the following priorities:
1) Programs that provide access to primary, mental and specialty (i.e. dental, women and children) healthcare for uninsured, underinsured and undocumented immigrants
2) Programs that provide wraparound care and service, including transitional and permanent housing for the homeless; substance abuse treatment; case management and referral support; transportation; and other complementary programs to underserved populations
Grant proposals for NevadaCounty must address the following priority:
1) Programs that provide access to primary and mental healthcare, and drug and alcohol counseling services.

Funds for Charitable Programs in Company Communities
The State Farm Companies Grants Program strives to meet the needs of company communities in the U.S. and Canada by supporting nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies that focus on safety, community development, or education. The Safe Neighbors grant category focuses on driving safety, home protection, disaster preparedness, and personal financial security. The emphasis of the Strong Neighborhoods category is on affordable housing, homeownership issues, community revitalization, and economic development. The Educational Excellence category targets K-12 teacher development, service-learning programs, and systemic educational reform. Applications are accepted from January 2 through October 31, annually. Online application guidelines are available on the State Farm website.

Ford Foundation Launches Funding Initiative to Develop Arts Spaces
The Ford Foundation has announced a ten-year, $100 million initiative to support a new generation of arts spaces nationwide. The new initiative, Supporting Diverse Arts Spaces, will provide funding for projects that incubate and produce creative work across all disciplines. Grant funds will support both new projects and the revitalization and expansion of existing arts spaces. Nonprofit arts organizations with strong track records of artistic excellence, who are intending to buy, build, renovate, partner in the development of, or become anchor tenants in a vibrant artist space can apply for grants of up to $100,000 each over two years in capital and/or planning support. All applicants must, at a minimum demonstrate a track record of excellence in their programming and artistic production; be 501(c)(3) organizations that directly serve both artists and communities; demonstrate strong community ties; and have the fiscal and organizational capacity necessary to partner in or carry out a facility project.
Deadline: Letters of Inquiry will be accepted on a rolling basis. For the Spring 2010 Cycle, LOI will be reviewed from April 14 to June 22, 2010 (for LOI received on or before May 28, 2010). For the Fall 2010 Cycle, LOI will be reviewed from September 22 to November 3, 2010 (for LOI received between May 29 and September 17, 2010). LINC will invite organizations with strong LOI to submit a full proposal within 30 days of receiving the LOI.

Women Helping Others Foundation Invites Grant Applications
The WHO (Women Helping Others) Foundation supports community-focused charities that serve the overlooked needs of women, children, and families in the United States and Puerto Rico. Funding will be considered for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charities that have been incorporated for at least three years and have total organizational budgets of $3 million or less. Preference will be given to organizations with an operating budget of $3 million or less, those not dependent upon government grants, and those with greater organizational program costs than personnel costs. Organizations that have previously received a WHO Foundation grant should wait three years before applying again.
Grants are not provided to individuals, educational institutions, religious institutions, or governmental agencies, or for endowment campaigns, political causes, or capital campaigns. Funding will be considered for grant requests from $1,000 to $40,000 each.

Understanding and Promoting Health Literacy
The Department of Health and Human Services, in its Healthy People 2010 initiative, defines health literacy as, “the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions”. Limited health literacy is likely to be a major contributor of adverse health outcomes. Research has linked low or limited health literacy with such adverse outcomes as poorer self-management of chronic diseases, less healthy behaviors, higher rates of hospitalizations and emergency department use, higher prostate-specific antigen levels, higher mortality, and overall poorer health.

Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council
The Pacific Forest and Watershed Lands Stewardship Council's Youth Investment Program Initiative Fund is aimed at, but not limited to, improving access of underserved youth to the outdoors by eliminating frequently cited barriers such as lack of transportation, programming that is not culturally relevant, little to no access to appropriate gear, and misperceptions about safety risks in the outdoors.
For 2010, the council will continue its funding focus on three geographic areas -- the metropolitan San Francisco Bay Area, the urban areas of the Central Valley (Highway 99 corridor), and rural areas with high rates of poverty.
Grants will range from $50,000 to $150,000 each.
Sacramento River Cats and the River Cats Foundation
The Sacramento River Cats and the River Cats Foundation have unveiled an expanded non-profit fundraising program for the 2010 season at Raley Field, team and Foundation officials announced today. The program presents each participating non-profit organizations with an opportunity to host an event at Raley Field during a 2010 River Cats home game. Each event at Raley Field includes a limited number of discounted tickets to sell as a fundraising tool and an opportunity for a promotional presence at the ballpark to educate fans about the organization and distribute promotional information. The River Cats will lend their support to each organization’s efforts to promote their event by making Dinger available for promotional opportunities, providing marketing support and listing the event on the River Cats’ website.
In addition to the opportunities offered by the River Cats Baseball Club, the River Cats Foundation will provide grants to the organizations who host the most successful events. The non-profit organization that generates the most revenue through this program will receive a grant of up to $4,500 from the Foundation. Additional grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded to the most successful organizations in the following areas: school/educational programs, youth sports/youth activities and community/family services.Non-profit organizations interested in participating should contact the River Cats at (916) 376-4944.

Agape Foundation Fiscal Sponsorship Program
Social change organizations that do not have tax-exempt status with the IRS may apply to be fiscally sponsored by the Agape Foundation. If accepted, their donors can make tax-deductible gifts to Agape, which are then re-granted to the fiscally sponsored organization. The organization must provide detailed reports to Agape on how the funds were spent and Agape's Board of Trustees retains discretion and control over the funds, ensuring that the fiscally sponsored organization uses the funds to further its stated mission. Agape is interested in organizations working for peace, human rights, environmental protection, economic justice, progressive arts and media. The mission of the NUMI Compassion Grant Program is to support the compelling programmatic needs of Greater Sacramento faith-based, cultural and artistic nonprofit organizations through small grants. Granting Policy:
